12,000 years of history
Moccasin Bend has one of the longest archaeological records anywhere in the National Park Service. People have lived here from the Paleo-Indian period on, and the land holds traces of everything from early villages and mound-building societies to the Trail of Tears and the Civil War. Today it is part of Chickamauga and Chattanooga National Military Park.
That history is why the National Park Service sign shows up in so many of these shots. We wanted every photo to say where you are, with the open fields of the district on one side and the mountains rising in the background.
