Chastain Park is one of Atlanta’s busiest neighborhood parks, and the Northside Youth Organization gym sits right in the middle of it, between the ballfields and the golf course. Our client, SG Contracting, brought us in to capture drone progress photos of the gym renovation and expansion designed by TVS.

When it is finished, the 45,000 square foot facility will give NYO more room for youth sports, community programs and public use. It is always exciting to document a project that will serve families and neighborhoods for years to come.

two buildings, one project

This job is really two projects in one. The existing gym is getting an 8,800 square foot renovation, and a new 27,100 square foot addition is going up right next to it. From overhead you can see both at once: the finished white roof on the renovated building and the steel frame of the new competition gym taking shape beside it.

The new building will include a regulation basketball court with retractable bleachers, practice courts, two community rooms, a weight room and a new entrance lobby. Shots like these give SG Contracting and the project team a clear record of how all of it comes together, which is exactly what construction progress photography is for.

more room for more kids

NYO handles more than 7,000 registrations a year and keeps a waiting list of 150 to 200 kids for basketball alone. To keep up, it has been renting eight to 10 gyms from schools and churches around the city. This expansion is a big step toward bringing those programs home to Chastain Park, with room to grow girls’ basketball and add recreational volleyball.
