Nashville, TN

overview

Midtown Nashville never sits still for long, and The Motley is a big reason why. Charter Construction and Green Apple Strategy brought us in to document the tower as it climbs, and by late August 2026 Phase 1 was already more than 20 stories up.

The Motley sits at 1401 Church Street, at the corner of 14th Avenue North, on the site of a former dairy plant. Hastings designed the tower to nod to that history, with arches and silo-inspired shapes and a scalloped precast concrete façade. Phase 1 is a residential tower with 326 units and ground-floor retail, and it is just the first piece of a larger mixed-use development planned for the block.

Our part is easy to explain and a lot of fun to do. We keep coming back, get the drone in close to the work, and capture the project one floor at a time.

close enough to see the work

From the street, a tower like this mostly looks like a crane and a lot of concrete. From the air you can see what is actually happening up top. Getting the drone in close lets us catch the crews working a pour on the deck, the placing booms reaching across the slab, and the core rising ahead of the floors, all in one frame.

That level of detail is what makes construction progress photography useful. Project teams can track how the building is coming along, share updates with owners and partners, and keep a visual record of how everything went together.

a skyline that keeps changing

These flights also capture everything happening around The Motley. Pinnacle, the Grand Hyatt and the Tennessee State Capitol all show up in the background, and the skyline looks a little different every time we go up. We love that about Nashville (yes, even the cranes).

For Charter Construction and Green Apple Strategy, that means every image shows The Motley in context, not just on its own. If you have a project going up in Nashville or anywhere in the Southeast, take a look at our aerial photography services or get in touch for a quote.
